One of the ways I have served my community is by participating in local politics. For the last 3 major elections I have been a part of campaigns. This election I had the honor of serving as Campaign Manager.
While we did not achieve our goal of winning the primary, it was still an honor to participate at that level. It is difficult and selfless work, but way more rewarding. I met so many wonderful people who truly care about their communities. This experience recharges me to help others in any way I can.
I encourage everyone to find a way to serve their community. It may not be in politics. Start with voting. Or volunteering in the community. Their allows you to experience your community and people in ways you may have never been able to. It also increases our interest and investment in our communities. If you appreciate it, you are more likely to protect it.
